Ernie Lutz flies 300th Young Eagle!

55 member and Mason resident, Ernie Lutz (left) flew his 300th
"Young Eagle" on July 11, 2009. He is pictured here with Tyler
Harkness (#300) and his sister Delanie Harkness (#301) of Leslie, Michigan.
Ernie received an embroidered flight jacket from EAA National in honor
of his achievement. He is one of several Chapter 55 pilots who have
provided over 2,300 area youngsters with their first airplane ride free
of charge since the "Young Eagle" program inception.

Ernie Lutz flies 100th Young Eagle!
On
August 10th, 2002, Ernie Lutz flew the chapter's 1000th
Young Eagle and his personal 100th.
Pictured here with Ernie (right) is Amber (1000th) and Michael (999th).
The chapter also has three other pilots, Ted Lakin, Mark Jacob and
Max Hall, who are members of the Century Club, having flown 100
or more Young
Eagles.
Chapter 55 reached it's goal more than a year ahead of schedule, which shows the dedication and hard work all the chapter members have put into making the goal. Many thanks go out to all the Young Eagle coordinators, Max Hall, Mike Arntz, Renee Arntz, Ted Lakin, and the many pilots who have donated flight time valued at over $20,000.
A very special thank you must be given to the ground crew members, without whom the rallies would have melted into chaos. Doug Koons, Gary Long, Bob Noelp for setup, crowd control, and tear-down. Lastly, but arguably most importantly, Greg Hover who has worked quietly behind the scenes to set up the grills, cook the hot dogs, and then clean it all up when we are done eating. Many thanks to all the members who have helped out. The Young Eagles Program is an important community service and community relations tool which will help keep General Aviation alive for many more years.
Ted Lakin flies 200th Young Eagle!

Ted Lakin, Young Eagle pilot extraordinaire, flew his 200th Young Eagle on June 8th 2002. Ted has been instrumental in helping Chapter 55 meet and surpass its yearly goals for Young Eagle Flights. In May of 2000 Ted organized the largest Young Eagle rally the chapter has ever hosted, flying almost 90 Young Eagles in one day. In addition, he returned the following day to fly the Young Eagles that he had not been able to fly the previous day. To put Ted's flying into perspective, he has single-handedly flown one-fifth of Chapter 55's Young Eagles.
